Andrea Commodi: Dall'attrazione per Michelangelo all'ansia del nuovo (Italian Edition) Details

Catalogue of exhibition held in Florence from May 17 to August 31, 2012. The book describes, through a wide selection of graphics (over forty drawings) and an important selection of paintings, life and work of Andrea Commodi (1560-1638). The Florentine painter, who after long stays in Rome attended the Casa Buonarroti, has left a large group of autograph sheets, currently preserved at the Prints and Drawings Department of the Uffizi in Florence, where we recognize copies of drawings and sketches by Michelangelo. Starting from these, the volume is proposed to approach the copies to the originals Michelangelo, making this way a comparison of exceptional visual effect and, at the same time, a scientific examination, according to the collectible point of view. The catalogue contains also other famous works of Commodi, including the Consacrazione del Santo Salvatore (now in Cortona's Cathedral), the paintings of the Storie di Sant'Ignazio and the study for the decoration of the apse of the Pauline Chapel in the Palace of Monte Cavallo in Rome (today Quirinale Palace, seat of Italian Presidency of Republic), with a large fresco of the Caduta degli angeli ribelli, who would be the extension of the Giudizio universale by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.
